If you’re finding your drinking companions a little dull these days, you can now ditch them altogether and opt for a virtual reality experience. Hotel restaurant Baptiste & Bottle, inside the Conrad Chicago hotel, is now offering a $95 rare scotch and sherry cocktail that includes “transportation” to Scotland to take you through the entire distilling process.
Patrons who order The Macallan Rare Journey are presented with a wooden box filled with moss and vegetation, as well as a VR headset. After a history lesson on the included spirits, the customer is invited to strap on the headset to experience The Macallan distillery itself, among other destinations. While immersed in the VR vacation, staff will mix the cocktail tableside, hoping the guest can enjoy the smells during their viewing.
The drink includes The Macallan Rare Cask scotch, which is made using casks from the top 1 percent of all casks maturing at The Macallan distillery, and Bodegas Tradición 30-year oloroso sherry. And while the spirits are rare, we have a feeling gimmicks like this won’t be. Earlier this year, a London bar debuted the world’s first augmented reality cocktail menu. What will they think of next?
