When it comes to holiday gifts, we like to mix it up a bit and introduce our friends and family to a liquor that they might not normally try. That means that this time of year, we’re often giving away bottles of tequila and mezcal.
Even though great agave-based spirits have been available for a while, the alcohol still hasn’t broken through as a mainstream Chanukah or Christmas present. That’s a real shame, since there is a wide variety of excellent bottlings out there.
To help popularize this idea, we asked Alba Huerta, partner in new agave-centric Houston establishment The Pastry War for five tequilas and mezcals she recommends gifting. (They’re so good you may want to buy a few for yourself.)
And the best news is that you don’t need to wait until Cinco de Mayo to drink these spirits. While we enjoy Margaritas and Palomas year-round, you can also make the seasonal Heated Affair and a tequila twist on the Hot Toddy—both of which are perfect for a holiday celebration. Cheers!
