Celebrating the Cocktail: 2011

New Orleans boasts serious mixological credentials: It’s the home of the Sazerac, the Ramos Gin Fizz and The Museum of the American Cocktail. And for the last eight summers, it has also played host to the Tales of the Cocktail convention.

For five days next month, the world’s best bartenders will converge on the Big Easy to lead spirited discussions, present dinners and, of course, fix drinks. (Enter our Tales contest for a chance to win a trip for two, including airfare, four nights’ hotel accomodations and tickets to more than a dozen events and parties.)

So, if you’re coming to Tales, here are the five seminars you shouldn’t miss.

Cool Bar Tools, Past, Present and Future (Wednesday, July 20):

Master mixologist and Liquor.com advisor Dale DeGroff moderates this panel of barware experts, including Cocktailkingdom.com founder Greg Boehm and Über Bar Tools owner Michael Silvers. You can even have your own prized shaker or other tool appraised afterward.

Around the World by (Brass) Rail (Thursday, July 21):

Take a tour of American-style bars in exotic locales, with award-winning author and Liquor.com advisor David Wondrich and tiki guru Jeff “Beachbum” Berry.

Classic Hotel Bars (Friday, July 22):

Cocktail hunter and Liquor.com advisor Simon Ford and Beefeater Gin global brand ambassador Dan Warner team up to talk about both historic and modern hotel bars and their skilled bartenders.

The Sporting Life-And Other Anecdotes (Friday, July 22):

An all-star cast, including Liquor.com advisors Allen Katz, Gary Regan and David Wondrich, will thrill you with an assortment of performances and dramatic readings from the annals of drinking history. And that’s not to mention the selection of thirst-quenching libations.

Born to Mix: Spirits “Made” for Cocktails (Saturday, July 23):

Sniff, swirl and taste at this cocktail workshop with Liquor.com advisor Dushan Zaric, talented bartender Jason Kosmas and Charbay master distiller Marko Karakasevic. You’ll get a dram of history and knowledge along with the tasty samples.

Wow, can't wait! We're going to be there serving Hoosier Momma Bloody Mary Maker Sunday at the Native Spirits Brunch, and selling it at the marketplace Sunday afternoon. Can't wait to meet the bartenders and mixologists.
