Will might have escaped, but one Chicago bar is here to make sure you can return to The Upside Down. The pop-up space next to Emporium Arcade Bar in Logan Square will transform into an ’80s-themed tribute to the popular show.
The Upside Down is meant to resemble an “end-of-summer ’80s dance party,” complete with recreations of the Christmas-light alphabet wall and the Mirkwood forest. Once you’re done gawking at the art installations throughout the bar, take a seat in the Byers’ living room and enjoy the DJ spinning ’80s music in a custom booth.
But it doesn’t stop there. The bar created four signature cocktails and two boozy slushies, including the Coffee & Contemplation, a scotch and coffee liqueur concoction, and the Mouth Breather, made with gin, Ancho Reyes chile liqueur, caramelized pineapple, lime and hellfire shrub, according to “Time Out Chicago.” You can also order Chief Hopper’s favorite, a Schlitz, or Goose Island GI5-5538 red pale ale, which was originally brewed for Pitchfork Music Festival in collaboration with SURVIVE, the band behind the “Stranger Things” soundtrack.
Better hurry, though—the bar opens August 18 and will only be open through September.
