Good drinking isn’t cheap. Today, it’s not unheard of to pay upwards of $20 for a cocktail at some of New York City’s best bars and restaurants. For rare spirits and special releases, you’ll likely pay much more. But would you pay $5,000 for a single cocktail?
Baccarat Hotel New York just added a Last Word variation that costs that much, but it’s not all about the ingredients. The L’Imperial cocktail uses Nolet’s Reserve gin ($100 a serving), cherry-oak-aged maraschino liqueur ($50 a serving) and rare 1920s-era Green Chartreuse ($1,150 a serving). It’s then garnished with Beluga cocktail caviar pearls ($75 a serving) and an amarena cherry painted with gold leaf and saffron.
But what really makes this cocktail unique—and expensive—is the glass it’s served in. The drink comes in a diamond-infused crystal Baccarat Tsar glass worth $3,600, which you get to keep.
Just remind yourself this one’s still a bargain compared to some record-setting drinks we’ve seen.
