If you’re a whiskey lover, you probably spend a fair amount on bottles of the good stuff. But how much is too much for a bottle of whiskey?

A pair of The Macallan 1962 whiskies sold this week for a record $1.2 million, making each bottle the most expensive bottle ever sold. The bottles feature labels designed by artist Sir Peter Blake, who co-created the Beatles album cover for “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” and Italian artist Valerio Adami. The whiskey was distilled in 1926, then aged for 60 years in sherry-seasoned oak barrels before being bottled and released in 1986.

Dubai airport-based retailer Le Clos sold the whiskies to the private collector for $600,000 each, which originally retailed for about $28,000. That sure is a lot more expensive than a sandwich and a magazine.
