How to Cocktail: Margarita

A slight twist on the classic Margarita, this tequila cocktail was invented at Tommy’s Mexican Restaurant in San Francisco. Bartender Jacques Bezuidenhout shows you how to make a Margarita.


  • 2 oz Partida blanco tequila
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz agave syrup  (one part agave nectar, one part water)

Garnish: Lime wheel
Glass: Cocktail, Margarita or Old Fashioned

Add all the ingredients to a shaker and fill with ice. Shake, and strain into a chilled Margarita or cocktail glass, or an Old Fashioned glass filled with fresh ice. Garnish with a lime wheel.

    Proper margaritas? American proper maybe. Authentic Mexican Margaritas don't have Cointreau, just saying.

    Yes but this is a take on the classic renowned Margarita. He explains it very well in the video.

    Agree with below comment. A proper margarita is made with cointreau and then you can skip the agave syrup or halve it and it's a proper top shelf margarita.

    Margaritas are generally made using a 1-2-3 formula:
    1 part fresh lime juice
    2 parts Cointreau
    3 parts Tequila
