How to Cocktail: Brown Derby

Made with bourbon and grapefruit juice, this cocktail named for the famous Los Angeles diner is sweet and sour. Watch top bartender Dominic Venegas mix up this classic in our video.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1.5 oz Bourbon
  • 1 oz Fresh grapefruit juice
  • .5 oz Honey syrup (1 part honey, 1 part water)
  • Garnish:Grapefruit wedge or twist
  • Glass:Cocktail

PREPARATION:
Add all the ingredients to a shaker and fill with ice. Shake, and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a grapefruit wedge or twist.

    Fantastic cocktail. I added a splash of white armagnac to the derivative I put on my last menu, and prefer to use a higher concentration of honey syrup (closer to runny honey, with a little coriander cooked into it). Well played.

    My Dad was ME of Daily Variety and we used to eat at the Brown Derby quite often with many wonderful Hollywood directors, writers and stars..I wish they had this drink back then. I'll enjoy it now though. Thank you for such a great creation!
