HOW TO COCKTAIL: BIG CHIEF

Abigail Gullo’s stiff but balanced cocktail was created at the Heaven Hill Bartender of the Year finals in Puerto Rico but was inspired by the Mardis Gras Indians of New Orleans. It’s the perfect cocktail for the St. Joseph Day parade or any occasion where you want to sip something smooth and rich.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 oz Elijah Craig small-batch bourbon
  • .5 oz Amaro Averna
  • .5 oz Punt e Mes

Garnish: Flambeaux orange peel
Glass: Rocks

PREPARATION:

Add all of the ingredients to a mixing glass filled with ice and stir. Strain into a rocks glass with 1 fresh ice cube. Holding the peel of an orange in your fingers, warm the peel side with a lit match over the drink. Squeeze the peel to express the oils over the match and drop the peel into the glass.
