From Jacques Bezuidenhout and Ken Luciano of PlumpJack Group, who also opened the excellent bar-industry hangout Forgerylast year, Wildhawk is an exciting newcomer in the heart of the Mission. It features a lineup of some of the Bay Area’s best bartenders, like Lauren Steele, Christina Cabrera and Marguerite Regan, with the bar run by the gracious Karri Cormican (formerly of Comstock Saloon). A gorgeous velvet green contrasts with black, white and a retro tan. The fine cocktails include the guaranteed hit, a dreamy Breakfast Negroni served in a mini bowl, combining Beefeater gin, Campari, chocolate salt bitters and Cocoa Puffs–infused Gran Lusso vermouth.

THE DRINK TO DRINK: Besides the Breakfast Negroni, the Castaway plays tropical but with calvados and savory kümmel caraway liqueur brightened by grapefruit, honey and mint. The 9 Deaths of the Ninja is served in an adorable Japanese raccoon mug, a light, unique mingling of toasted coconut whiskey, white port and Mathilde pear eau de vie, frothy with egg white.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: Chef Howard Ko creates bites like smoked trout accented with crème fraîche and fermented turnips, or petite vegetable crudités dipped in black garlic Ranch with smoked sea salt.
