A quintessential neighborhood beer bar opened in 1992, Map Room rotates an intimidatingly diverse array of local, national and international brews on more than two dozen taps and offers about four times as many bottles and cans. It opens early in the morning (6:30 a.m. most days) with coffee and pastries and grows increasingly crowded after lunch.
THE DRINK TO DRINK: The menu can be daunting, but the bartenders are not. Be picky, ask questions, accept samples and find a beer you love.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: There’s no kitchen, but Monday evenings see the somewhat random arrival of a deli spread. Otherwise, you’re stuck with pretzels.
