Tucked behind a red velvet curtain next to the kitchen at Fat Rice, this tiny annex of the popular Macanese restaurant nods to the backrooms of vintage Chinese gambling halls in Macau’s red light district, down to its pinup girl wallpaper. But the drinks, designed by Fat Rice chef Abraham Conlon, are positively 21st century: Fact: Conlon has no previous mixology experience; he created his slew of house-made spirits to cut down on food waste. THE DRINK TO DRINK: The Be Somebody is a rummy homage to Steve Martin’s character from The Jerk (rum, house-made allspice dram, ugli fruit bitters, jerk flavors); the Dr. Manhattan spins the classic rye cocktail against “speculative” Dr. Pepper ingredients (prunes, cherries, carrot tops, etc.).
