The St. Regis has hosted the rich and famous since the late 1800s, and there’s no better place to sip a Bloody Mary while admiring the Maxfield Parrish mural above the bar. French bartender Pete Petiot supposedly created and popularized the Bloody Mary here, renamed The Red Snapper, so as not to scandalize the high-society clientele with such a gruesome name.
THE DRINK TO DRINK: The Red Snapper/Bloody Mary KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: The bar is plenty friendly, but the opulent hotel is not keen on outsiders. Dress well, and sweep in past the front desk like you own the joint.
