The only cocktail bar worth schlepping down to the Financial District for is run by Irishmen Jack McGarry and Sean Muldoon. Depending on your mood, head to the ground-level bar for raucous, publike fun, or climb a level for a more genteel, quiet experience at one of the small tables. The drinks, outlined in one of the most ambitious, expansive menus around, are excellent in both spaces. No wonder this bar keeps racking up awards.
THE DRINK TO DRINK: It’s a toss-up between the much-lauded Irish whiskey and anything served out of a punch bowl at the Parlor bar (or “bottled punches” at the Taproom bar).
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: The Taproom downstairs tends to be more boisterous, often full of Wall Street bros. After 5 p.m., head upstairs to the Parlor for a more civilized scene. This year, The Dead Rabbit topped the list of the World’s 50 Best Bars.
