L.A.’s Westside isn’t generally where you’d go to find good Mexican food, but the newly opened Tacoteca is looking to change that. Chef Ricardo Diaz cooks up modern spins on street-food classics, like grilled octopus tacos with peanut sauce and duck tamales. Beverage director Gia St. George’s original cocktails have the same ethos, too.

THE DRINK TO DRINK:
Order your shot of mezcal as a preparado #2 and it’ll come with an orange slice and spicy Mexican chocolate. It’s a fabulous combination.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:
There’s a daily happy hour with discount drinks from 5 to 7 p.m., as well as late-night specials from 10 to close that include a shot of mezcal, beer and Michelada for $10.
