The only thing greater than the Rainbo’s maroon vinyl booths, semicircle bar and checkered floor is its original neon sign out front. The drinks aren’t worth mentioning, other than the fact that they’re dirt-cheap. But when there’s this much character—and this many characters—in a single room, it doesn’t matter what’s in your hand.
THE DRINK TO DRINK: Something in a bottle. J. Rogét counts. You’re here, so you may as well run with it.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: Rainbo is at its best early in the week, when old-school patrons rule the roost. Bring a couple of singles for the photo booth—your B&W strip just might make it into the annual calendar.
