Otto’s no newcomer. This offbeat East Village dive has been around since 2002 and describes itself as a “new interpretation of the tiki bar.” Wildly colorful tiki decor and rum-heavy drinks in decorative mugs combine with nightly live music to form Otto’s distinct brand of tiki joint—complete with a side of rock and roll. Prepared with only fresh ingredients, tiki standards like Zombies and Suffering Bastards are served here in grinning ceramic mugs, available for purchase. Feeling adventurous? Opt for a flaming Volcano Blast bowl or Pang’s Punch, touted as a “glow in the dark, radioactive rum punch.”
THE DRINK TO DRINK:
Order the Otto’s Octane, a signature mug of pineapple rum, coffee liqueur and banana that will “help speed you to your destination.” Follow that with one of Otto’s frozen specialties, like the generous frozen Daiquiri, Piña Colada or the oddly enticing German Chocolate Cake cocktail.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:
Head to the back room for diverse live music acts including rockabilly, indie rock, punk, country, metal and surf rock, or dance to the DJ spinning in the front room.
