D.C. has taken quite a liking to Peruvian cuisine and drinks in the past several years. Nazca Mochica enters the scene with a multilevel space broken into several different concepts. The bar is housed downstairs, where small plates and ceviche is the focus and loud lounge music is often playing, while the main floor is the more restrained sit down dining room. Expect well-made Pisco Sours, Chilcanos and other Peruvian drink staples, along with a growing pisco list and some exotic spirits and ingredients thrown in for good measure.
THE DRINK TO DRINK: The Cucumber Chilcano, showcasing spicy Peruvian pepper-infused pisco, served up with small cucumber bits, cucumber juice, lime juice, ginger beer, bitters and a flamed rosemary sprig.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: The downstairs bar and lounge, Mochica, offers a first-come first-served policy, with smaller, more affordable bites, while reservations are recommended upstairs at the restaurant Nazca.
