Since opening in 2011, Masa Azul has earned a reputation for having one of the best small-batch tequila and mezcal lists in Chicago. Owner Jason Lerner—and then beverage director Jenny Kessler—created a revered cocktail program that now centers on various agave-based drinks, including sotol, bacanora, and raicilla. While many new Logan Square bars tend to feature whiskey or gin, here tequila is king, queen, jester and the entire court itself. You won't find Patrón here, but you will discover a vast selection of well-curated spirits.
THE DRINK TO DRINK:
Treat yourself to the signature Tour de Mexico featuring numerous agave spirits: tequila reposado, mezcal joven, sotol reposado, pulque, agave nectar and fresh citrus.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:
Masa is both a neighborhood joint and destination spot with a convivial vibe and a mom-and-pop spirit. No matter if you're a tequila aficionado or newbie, go in with an open mind and expect a good time.
