Before it shuttered a few years back, Holiday Cocktail Lounge was an East Village fixture. Now the bar, a one-time haunt for the city’s vintage creative set, has been resuscitated as a classy dive complete with banquettes, in addition to thoughtful cocktails courtesy of the brothers Neff, Michael and Danny. When the craving for more than a beer strikes, there are drinks such as the Ocean Club (rum, amaro, lime juice, pineapple cordial) to turn to. Order Holiday’s namesake libation and vodka, amaro and fresh lemon will mingle with a choice of sparking wine, pilsner or dry apple cider.
THE DRINK TO DRINK:
Cocktails on the gun are no longer verboten, and proving the delight they can bring is Holiday’s rendition of the Long Island Iced Tea, in which vodka is infused with breakfast tea and from-scratch oleo saccharum stands in for triple sec.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:
The horseshoe-shaped bar is as much a hit with industry folks as it is locals. Imbibe during the wee hours, and watching off-duty bartenders get “holiday-ed” is a certainty.
