Widely regarded as the finest Oaxacan restaurant in L.A., if not the country. It’s been serving up delicious mole and other delicacies for more than 20 years, and was honored with a James Beard America’s Classics award this year.
THE DRINK TO DRINK:
Mezcal. A few years back, Guelaguetza added a mezcaleria bar, and now offers an always-expanding list of smoky agave spirits that currently includes several dozen bottlings, along with nine cocktails.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:
There’s live music every night. If you feel like dancing, ask for a table in the raucous front room. If it’s a more intimate occasion, sit in the back, where it’s quieter.
