Though The Bon Vivants’ delightful Trick Dog gets endless acclaim, in 2015 the group revamped the basement bar and music venue Cafe Du Nord, a historic space that goes back more than 100 years. Under new ownership and decor, the bar is sexier, more inviting and with much better cocktails. Though some miss the nightly music venue/dive format, the live music space is now its own space: the Viking Room, which showcases jazz and blues, recalling retro supper clubs or New Orleans’ singular music venues.
THE DRINK TO DRINK: The Bon Vivant’s Morgan Schick created the drinks, with the briny Martini du Nord already feeling iconic: Fords gin infused with oyster shells, Noilly Prat dry vermouth and an onion garnish.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: Make it a night and reserve a table for dinner in the Viking Room. Don’t miss oysters Kirkpatrick baked with bacon, hot sauce and grana padano cheese or the epic Parker House rolls.
