We admit it: We love buying new cocktail gear almost as much as we enjoy drinking summer cocktails. Each year, we can’t wait for the season to begin so we can pick up the latest and greatest gadgets no matter if we have room for them or not.
And fortunately, every year brands introduce a range of products, from high-tech tools and delicious natural mixers to complex spirits. But don’t worry—we’ve done the hard work of combing the web and sorting through press releases to find the gear you’ll definitely want to buy and you’ll actually use.
We’re so excited by this summer’s crop, we’ve put together a slideshow of nine must-haves. Check out the complete list now and then go shopping. Cheers!
During a hot summer afternoon, there’s nothing we like better than relaxing in the shade and enjoying an aperitif. So we were pretty excited when we heard about Luxardo’s new Aperitivo. The low-alcohol sipper (it’s just 22-proof) is infused with different herbs and citrus. Just add club soda or prosecco to make a cooling Spritz.
The latest addition to SodaStream’s lineup is the slick Source machine, which was designed by Yves Béhar, founder of sustainability firm Fuseproject. It features a handy LED display that shows you the level of carbonation and a new one-button locking system.
Fever-Tree takes cocktail mixers very seriously and only uses the finest ingredients sourced from around the world for its products. The brand just released a Mediterranean Tonic, which is made with real quinine and flavored with lemon oil from Sicily, thyme, geranium, rosemary and mandarin orange. It’s designed to work with vodka for one refreshing drink.
Get everyone’s attention at your summer barbecue by mixing up a drink in this southern-inspired Ball Jar cocktail shaker. First launched as a Kickstarter project in August 2012, The Mason Shaker hit the market just a few months ago. Its cap and strainer are made with a heavy-duty stainless steel.
Cherries are one of our favorite things about the summer, and we love adding their sweet, tart taste to cocktails. While you could certainly muddle the fresh fruit (try the Cherry Bulldog), we also enjoy adding these artisanal cherry bitters (from the owners of Brooklyn restaurant James) to summer concoctions.
If there’s ever a hall of fame for bar tools, the humble jigger will no doubt be among the first inductees. And we suggest investing in Casabella’s set of four handy measuring cups. No matter if you’re making a single drink or a punch, you’ll be covered. And best of all, nothing sticks to the silicone.
It’s time to get out your bike and enjoy the good weather on two wheels. And the perfect thing to wear is a boozy cycling jersey. While many breweries sell them, we like Moab’s fanciful Rocket Bike Lager jersey (pictured) and Dogfish Head’s new one.
Boutique soda brand Q Drinks has just introduced a trio of citrus-based fizzy elixirs. Each one is flavored with real fruit and sweetened with a bit of organic cane sugar. (None of the new sodas has more than 55 calories.) They’re also great mixed with a range of spirits.
One of our favorite summer drinks is the Gin & Tonic. But if you’re really serious about the cocktail, you need to get this chic Gin Wheel, which includes compartments for glasses, ice, bar tools, garnishes and—of course—gin and tonic. You can order one now, and it'll ship in a few weeks.
Think you know the booze?
Let’s start with some basics.
