Gin and cognac give this Egg Nog double the heft while a spiced syrup lends rich winter flavor.
Add all ingredients into an ice-filled shaker and shake vigorously (20-30 sec).
Double-strain into a 10-ounce rocks glass filled with fresh ice, and garnish with a star anise pod.
Add all ingredients to a pot and simmer together until sugars are fully dissolved. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Strain syrup through a cheesecloth into a bottle. Store in refrigerator.
