If you like booze, you know how hard it can be to get your hands on a bottle of the elusive Pappy Van Winkle. Only a few thousand cases are released annually, so oftentimes boozehounds will end up spending astronomical amounts for just a small pour.
One Houston bar is hoping to finally change that. Hosting its first-ever Say Goodbye to Our Pappy event, Eight Row Flint aims to sell all of its Pappy at more reasonable prices. Just how reasonable? The bar’s social media accounts are quoting $4.47 for 1.5 oz of Old Rip Van Winkle 10-year-old on up to $30 for 1.5 oz of the Pappy 23-year-old. At those prices, the bar will make virtually no profit, so it really is a sort of holiday miracle!
Before you book your plane ticket, be aware that the event does have some strict rules. Everyone in attendance will be given a wristband and a number based on when they arrived, and the bar says they can only guarantee that the first 100 people will get a taste. The rare sips are also limited to one per person and can only be purchased for yourself.
The event is set to take place on December 26 starting at 5:30 p.m. We’re guessing there’s going to be a line forming hours ahead of time, if everyone’s not too hungover from Christmas the night before, so it may be smart to get there early.
