Happy Hour Gets A New Buzz

Contributed by

Most days, around late afternoon, two things tend to occur: We look for a pick-me-up (Starbucks run, anyone?) and we start thinking about happy hour. One hotel was smart enough to combine the two—caffeine and cocktails—in a new coffee program rolling out at a handful of locations across the world.

Capitalizing on the cold brew trend, last week Wyndham Grand launched Brew Parlor: a cold-brew coffee drink and cocktail program developed by “Chef de Caffeine” Stephanie Izard (Girl & the Goat in Chicago) and mixologist Ivy Mix (Leyenda in Brooklyn). Together, they created a menu of cold brew cocktails like The Impetus Spritzer, made with St. Germain, tonic, and Cynar, and the non-alcoholic Biscotti Coffee, made with almond whipped cream and a simple syrup of star anise, fennel seed and orange zest.

“There’s nothing better than a perfect cup of coffee,” Izard said. “As a chef, I’ve always put a lot of care into the coffee I serve, and I’ve worked with Wyndham Grand to find a coffee that is not only tasty on its own, but also serves as a base for creative flavors.”

Adds Mix: “We are elevating coffee-based cocktails beyond the traditional White Russian. With all of the advancements in craft cocktails, we are able to create a unique menu using coffee and infused cold brew as ingredients.”

The coffee happy hour is offered Monday through Friday from 4PM to 6PM, but unless you’re in one of their pilot markets—Chicago, IDoha, Qatar; Shenzhen, China or Istanbul—you may have to wait or mix up your own.
