    Some bartenders like to do equal parts cognac to rye, in fact Dale deGroff recommends this in Craft of Cocktail. Imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon a bottle of Sazerac Cocktail, "a perfect blend of rye whiskeys & fine brandy", in the basement of Antoine's in New Orleans. Not only is it exciting to find that bartenders where already bottling cocktails by the turn of the century, but New Orleans bartenders where mixing up 50/50 Sazeracs before Prohibition!
